Pre-departure

So I leave for Tanzania in less than 36 hours. Something that I have been working towards since December is finally here and I'm feeling a big mix of excitment and nervousness.

My bag is packed, although not everything fits so I'm going to have to arrange somethings and try to guess what it is I'll actually need over the next 2 months. My vaccinations, documents and medications are all up-to-date so I'm definitely ready. The hardest part is leaving behind family and friends. This is the longest I will ever be away from home so that part is kind of scary.

On the other hard I am so extremely excited to be going off on this adventure. I'm thrilled to get the chance to experience Tanzanian life and hopefully have some tiny impact. I'm well aware that I will be getting far more out of this experience than I could possibly give to the people of Morogoro but I hope that I can still make some small difference through the YCI programming.

Internet access will likely be quite intermittent so I don't know how often I will get to update this blog but I will try to do so regularly. Please feel free to leave comments or send me an e-mail because I would love to hear from all of you on how your lives are going.

Thank you to everyone for your support up to this point and I'm taking all your love and kind thoughts with me!

  1. Hey Melissa,

Have fun on your trip! I know when I was there that the one thing I wish someone told me would be to take it easy; my plans changed spontaneously, sporadically, frequently. That and not overdoing the cashews too early.

    Good luck!
